ankle injury

My daughter’s ankle was severely bruised during a soccer match 3 days ago. She ambulates fine and the bruise is residing.
She continues to have edema in her ankle.
She also has a freely movable object under the skin on the lateral aspect of her ankle joint that is painless.
It is about the size of a nickle.
She is 18 and has played soccer and run cross country at a high level for several years. Any ideas?

Normally there is no “freely moving object the size of a nickel” there. It is not uncommon for highly motivated athletes to deny their pain and play through it. I think it would be best to have her ankle examined by a podiatrist or orthopedist.
