Detached Retina

I play in several O-40 leagues and have played almost forever! I took a shot almost point blank in the eye from a shooter whom I respect greatly from 18 yards out. (I know, the idea is for the keeper to use his hands!!) Now I have been diagnosed with a partially detached retina. I have had a couple of laser surgeries on it already and it sounds promising, but……?
Has anyone else had/heard of this happening? What has been your experience as far as continuing to play? Will sports goggles help protect this area? I am hoping I am just panicking but I would like to hear from other real life experiences.
