OUCH!!

(3 discussions)

I injured my knee the for the first time at age eight at basketball camp running into a much bigger and older girl! I went to the trainer and cryed my eyes out due to pain! I told her something did not hurt that acutally hurt alot! I was young and did not relize i would have pain for the rest of the camp!
The next time i injured my knee was the next year at basketball camp when I was in defensive postionand somebody hit my knee I went falling to the ground and was carried off the court and then played the next next thinking I would be just fine! Alhtough i had not had pain all year i started to think that my two injuries might be linked!
NOw this year at camp at age 11 I was blocking a lay-up and landed wrong and twisted my ankle then my knee! I finished the game then went down to the trainers room and was there till almost midnight with ice on my knee and doing test! the next day i had a choice to make either to sit out or go to the docotor still being scared i said sit out although i did nothing that day i started up again playing the next i had had pain that year but took it lightly thinking it was nothing! NOw two months later the pain is just as intense as it was when i hurt it the last time! the pain is all around my knee-cap on the inside!
If you have any information on what I might have done then pelase right back? Also if you think my injures could be linked pelase right back?

I don’t have any idea what your injury is, but I am replying to offer some advise. You are only 11 now, just think what sort of problems you might end up having if you don’t look after your knee or the rest of your body!!

If you hurt something you should rest it and let it heal before returning to sport, and if poss get it checked out!!

I know I never believed this when I was younger, but trust me, as you get older your body doesn’t cope anyway near as well as when you are young, everything takes longer to heal and can easily become a permanent problem.

Look after your body now, listen to the warning signs (PAIN!!) and you will suffer less in the long run. Don’t learn the hard way by damaging yourself.

    Ask yourself this question:-
You might not want to have a couple of months off now.
But do you still want to be playing basketball (or any other kind of physical sport) when you are 20? 30? 40? 50? etc.

And how easy was it to hurt your knee? how long’s the rest of you going to last if you don’t look after it?

I know I’ve gone on a bit, but I hope you take notice.

Anyway, good luck with sorting your knee.

    Sarah.
