Pain in Hip Socket

I have recurring pain in one hip socket. It occurs during runs, and sometimes while walking. It’s not felt all the time, but when it happens I have to immmediately take weight off that leg and hop on the other for a few steps. Sometimes I stop running all together and take a week break. I can usually return to running and can still “feel” the pain, but not as prominent. On yesterday’s run I didn’t feel it at all, but today I had one time when I had to take weight off of the leg and now I’m feeling it when I walk.

This has been going on for a long time (2 years), but not as bad. I used to only feel it maybe once every 4-5 runs, and never felt it while walking. The pain is sharp and comes from where the head of the Femur fits into the socket. It seems to come from the outside of the socket. I have no visible inflamation, and taking anti-inflamatories long term hasn’t helped. Is it just signs of getting older???

It’s long since you posted this, I’d like to answer anyway… Perhaps you suffer from a stress fracture, which only x-ray can reveal.
