painful heel area

(3 discussions)

I have pain in my left heel and have an area where skin is also numb on the soul of my left heel.
It has got progressively worse over the last few weeks, and is actually keeping me awake at night, anti inflammatories do not touch this discomfort.
I have a disc protrusion between L5 and S1.
Could this be related?
(I had CT scan and MRI done for confirmation).
I am waiting for a consult with an orthopedic surgeon, but that could take months.
Hope you can help.

Without examining you, I can’t say for sure. I have seen many patients who have low back pain that refers to the foot. The heel is innervated by L5 and S1. There are of course many other possibilities, such as heel spur, plantar fasciitis, tarsal tunnel, heel neuroma, to name a few possibilities. Have you seen a podiatrist or chiropractor yet?

We don’t have a podiatrist in this area. I guess I should touch bases with my own Dr again, I just hate to waste he’s time!!, the pain is just in the heel though, doesnt radiate down my leg at all. Thanks so much for your help. Much appreciated>

I have what I believe to be a stone bruise on my right heel. It is not on the bottom but on the lower inside of my heel. I feel like relief would results from obtaining more support from the arch area taking weight off the heel. If you agree, what do you suggest and is it necessary to apply the solution to both feet?(The bruise came from playing racquetball)
