Painfull calves

(3 discussions)

Hi there, recentley i have been seeing a physio about my calf muscles, whenever i walk anywhere my calves become very tight like they are going to explode, this happens into 5 mins of the walk. And when I stop the pain will ease after 10 or 15 mins. I have put up with this pain for well over 12 months now. My physio has been giving me ultasound therapy on my calves and im now waiting to see a chiropodist to get orthotics made for me. My question is does ultra sound therapy work, because im not getting any bennefit from it at all, ive also been givin stretching exercises to do these do not seem to work either. And do orthotics work for tight calf muscles? I am worried i have compartment syndrome but i dont like to mention this to my physio as she may think im a hypocondriact! could it be possible that this is compartment syndrome? Or could it just simply be that i over pronate which is causing the tightness in my calves? My physio did say that i have collapsed arches when i walk!
Anyone with any ideas, Please help!!!!

    Hi,

Ultrasound will loosen the tissues – it has a micro massage effect as well as generating heat (depending on how it is used).

Have you had any deep massage? This is beneficial in flushing out tight spots and knots in the muscles. For compartment syndrome it may help if done correctly by stretching the sheath surrounding the muscle, reducing the pressure within.

    Have a look here:

Hi Jingly. Looks like I’ve developed a Comprtment Syndrome, both legs. They say the most likely solution is surical. It looks like you have just had the surgery. I would really appreciate hearing from you vis. how you tried to resolve the problem without surgery and how was your surgery when you decided to have it. Would you please share your experience, please?

If I were you I would forget asking the physio and go straight to your doctor to get tested for compartment syndrome. At least you would know one way or another.
I’m sure the symptons of compartment syndrome can differ, but mine showed up with tightness in the calf and numbness in the foot when running.

    Good luck!
