Pulled Abdominal Muscle – Please help!

Hey,

I am a junior tennis player from Canada and I have had a recurring abdominal injury that makes my lower right ab muscle very sore (as I am left handed) when I serve. The muscle hurts alot when I use any overheard motion. This problem has been recurring for nearly two years now.

I have tried taking time off serving and whenever I come back to serving after a pain free day, the next day the injury is back again. I am seeing a physio therepist but the injury does not seem to be healing.

The pain comes only on serves and overheads and the muscle is very tight around the bottom right ab area as well as just below the bellybutton to the right. Can anyone shed some insight on what I can do to get rid of this nagging problem before college tennis begins next year?

Thanks very much.

Did you go through physical therapy. The abdominal muscle can be aggravated from any activity such as sitting up squatting, etc. The physical therapist can go over body mechanics at least. All I know is rest, ibuprofen, stretching and strengthening exercises. I have also suffered an abdominal injury after I had abdominal surgery. I have had pain for two months so far. I have tried rest which works after 2 weeks but as soon as I try activity I end of doing something to aggravate the pain. Sometimes it has to do with body mechanics but other times I have to be careful about what aggravates the pain. I am working with a physical therapist. so far three sessions . What have you tried so far? Is your abdominal muscle aggravated even by normal activity without exercise?
