Ab strain or hernia?

(3 discussions)

I recently injured my abdominal wall when doing dead lifts followed by declined crunches. I have what seems to be a sharp pain right next to my belly-button. I also have a light acheing that follows all the way down into my croch. I have checked myself countless times for a bulge (assuming a hernia) and I can’t find one at all. At the same time I received this injury I started experiancing gastro-intestinal problems. I cramp up enough to feel sick when eating, only sometimes but not always. I have _no_ pain urinateing or deficateing but feel an uncomfortable pressure just before I need to deficate. I feel no pain or swelling in my scrotum/testicals. It feels like a strain to me, but since I’ve never had an abdominal strain I can’t tell. Also, can ab strain cause cramping that is bad enough to effect digestion?

Seth I had hernia surgey on wednesday to repair a hernia my doctor said I did not have.I thought I had a groin pull.Tell your doctor to order an ultrasound if you do or do not have a hernia this will tell. I had no buldge. I went to see a surgeon and 3 surgeons could not find it. I had a dull ache in my lower abdominal region. My scrodem worked fine too.It was a small hernia 1 cm. some times I guess you don’t have a huge buldge.

Update- the intestinal discomfort is going away as the cramping goes away. I don’t think this is a hernia. Dam groin/ab strains are very strange animals! My entire lower right quadrent was given to burning cramps after prolonged posture, mainly sitting. One occurance actually made my entire mid section front and back burn with cramps, both sides. I have constantly checked for bulges and can’t find any. I cough and check and no bulge or bubble pops out (no pain either). Excuse me for saying so, but my scrotum is doing just fine/acting normally. The only difficulty with that particular area is when everything aches/cramps it begins to ache a little too after a while. The acheing begins as soon as I have to use my abs. Basically as soon as I get up out of bed in the morning it begins to ache more and more. This is not like a hernia from what I gathered. A henria will come and go depending upon how bad it is. This starts off and gets worse and worse the more fatigued I get. It is exactly like a lower back injury except the irratation to the gut is annoying to say the least. Stretching temporarily eases the cramping and acheing but it comes right back about 15 minutes to a half an hour later. I also get the occasional “lightening cramp”. The kind your lower back will have in an intense spasm. Still think it is a hernia? Especially when the initial strain was in the upper abdominals close to my belly button?
