Slight pain on right inner knee

(3 discussions)

Have had knee problems before (ITB syndrome) and now use orthotics which have been brill in sorting out that problems. This pain is like a tightness on right inner knee and feels at its worse when I squat right down and tighten muscles in knees. If I press on bone on inner knee just below knee cap I can feel like a brusing pain. I am a runner and have lots of races coming up. Will I make it worse by carrying on running? On a scale of 1 – 10 of pain, it is only about 3.

Sorry, no other ideas!! How long has it been hurting? Sometimes niggly things flare up for no reason and dissapear just as quickly!! I have just recently (last Sunday) had my knee swell up and become sore and painful. I don’t know why, but now 4 days later it is almost gone.

Are you still seeing the person you saw about your ITB problem? If so how about asking them?

    Hope you figure it out,

    Thanks Sarah

I tried both things you said and neither caused any pain. I can’t recall the knee hurting initially through any running. I think it was the day after a run. I don’t think it is anything to do with the orthotics as I have had them for a year.

    Any other ideas?

Just a guess, but I have damaged my medial ligament in my knee a couple of times. When I push where you are saying it does feel like a really bad bruise. The first time I did it I thought it was the bone or cartilige, but it was the ligamnet. Maybe you have slightly strained it.

If you stress the joint sidways with your knee moving to the inside and lower leg outwards does that hurt it.

Or the other thing that I found I can’t do is this, hard to describe, if you kneel and then let your bum sit on the floor so both your feet move outwards. You should be sat down, with both knees bent and your feet on the outside.. I can’t put even the slightest pressure in this direction on it!

The orthotics may have changed something that makes you put a little more stress on it.

It would be best to get it checked out, and then get the correct treatment.

As for running on it, it depends how much it aggrivates it. My guess would be if running started it hurting in the first place, to continue would only make it worse.
But again if you know for sure what it is, and how bad it is, it would be alot easier to answer that.

    Good Luck.

    Sarah.
