I woke up with bruising and swelling on the top of my foot without having injured my foot. See message please.

Yesterday, I noticed a deep ache on the top of my left foot and it was very tender to palpation.
When I woke up this morning, the entire top of my foot (from about 1″ down from the toes to the top of my ankle) is bruised and swollen.
I have had no injury/trauma to my foot that I can think of. I have a clicking sound when I evert my ankle but that’s nothing unusual I’ve had that for a while.
The bruising is more laterally than medially as is the swelling.
When I put my hand on top of my foot, I feel a “grinding” sensation of the tendons (this is new, started today) when I flex my toes and somewhat when I extend them.
It’s painful so I have tried to limit this motion as much as possible today. I don’t have the strongest ankles around and have had some serious sprains in the past to this ankle.
I’m just curious what you think as I can’t remember injuring this ankle in the last few days.
My ankle has been known to “give out” on me but I know it’s been a while since this has happened.
Could this be a tendon injury??
If it continues to be so painful, I’m sure I’ll go see a podiatrist in the next week or two but wanted to get your opinion. Thanks so much.

dead toe

Can anything be done about a broken toe that didn’t set properly? I broke my second toe two years ago and now it doesn’t bend at the knuckle at all – it just sticks straight out. I am worried that as I age this toe will cause me problems. What do you suggest?

deep bruises and pain won’t go away

I haven’t been able to seem to shake my problem with my feet and leg. A year ago I fell and I twisted my ankle and wore a brace, then during the last summer I got Blood poisiong from a blister on toe on the same leg I had twisted. Now 2 months ago I fell and landed on the same leg, my left leg.
The bruises are still there and the pain now has left me with a numbing and tingly feeling from my brusies to the bottom of my foot where its swollen and red and I can’t put my full body weight on it. My heal is always in pain no matter with ice and heat packs or nicely soled shoes or bare.
When I get up I can’t walk on my foot and It’s becoming un bareable.
I worry about deep blood clots or a break that my previous doctor didn’t notice and hasn’t healed and now with all these other injuries I can’t find relief.

Neuroma

I have a neuroma on my right foot and read on the internet that there is a new surgery that involves cutting the ligament instead of removing a piece of the nerve. It said it is 95% effective, but the doctor who does it is in Missouri and I am in Ohio. How can I find a doctor in Ohio that does this surgery??

nerve damage of the foot?

I have been having sever pain/and tingling like a shock that travels from my ankle to the 3 middle toes. I can flex down ,up and outward with minimal discomfort, but not inward. It feels as though I have been given an electrical shock along with great pain. The foot with ache at times below the three toes just where they “bend” at the spot where they meet the foot. I also have a heel spur on that foot? Nerve damage or heel spur side effects?

Morning foot pain – plantar fascitis?

I’ve been having pain on the bottom of my left foot, right behind my big and second toes (around the ball of the foot). It is most intense first couple of steps in the morning, and that symptom matches plantar fascitis. But isn’t plantar fascitis pain more towards the back of the foot, near the heel? This is right behind the toes.
Sometimes it hurts later in the day also, but usually its more of a problem if I am walking around the house barefoot.
While wearing shoes, I rarely feel pain.

Knots on bottom of feet

For the past year I’ve had knots developing under the skin of the bottom of my feet.
They can appear at any time of the day, and can last for a few hours or an entire day.
The skin usually becomes a little red where they’re located.
I can’t really tell if it’s muscular, connective, or osseous in nature, but they’re dense and painful.
They primarily appear on the ball and lateral part of the foot (not the arch), and sometimes where the heel meets the arch, but never directly on the heel or toes.
Walking barefoot on hard or cold surfaces seems to aggravate them, and cause them to appear.
The only thing I can think of is that I wore a really terrible pair of house shoes for the past couple of years, that had a very thin sole.
I stopped wearing them, but I still have this problem.
Thank you.

Corns – discoloration

(2 discussions)

I am an African-American who has used salycylic acid in the past to remove corns from the tops of my toes. I’ve also since worn more sensible shoes that are comfortable. However, my skin has been discolored (lightened) as a result of the salycylic acid. What can I do to restore the appearance?
