teninitus-left knee

(2 discussions)

I recently ran a marathon and think I have tendinitus in my left knee. During and after the run I experienced severe pain just below my knee cap. It feels okay until I start running or do intense physical activity. Do you have any ideas for physical therapy I can do to build up the muscles around my knee? Thanks! Ann

patella tendinitis can be the result of multiple biomechanical faults, running pattern, or simply just overuse…. The use of cold packs can help manage inflammation, but make sure and check your quadricep, hamstring, and calf muscle length so that they are all flexible. Often flat feet contribute to mechanical faults and simple orthotics can help. Other times, your pelvis, hips or ankle joints may be contributing. Its not an easy fix online, but definitely one that your local physical therapist can address. Find one that spends some one on one time with you to perform a thorough evaluation and running pattern assessment. .
