Tendonitis in the shoulder??????

(3 discussions)

Hi,
I do martial arts, which involve constantly landing on my left shoulder. I have done judo for more than 17 years, several times a week.
Over the years I have experienced pain in my shoulder when I lift my arm out to the side, but I soon learnt that if i rested it and tried not to move the arm at all in that direction, in a day or two at the most it would be gone.
This has happened several times and has always cleared up.
But about a year ago, it started up and I have been unable to shake it. I was trying to do press ups daily and had to stop.
Then a couple of weeks ago it got much worse. I am now in constant pain, although taking Anti-inflamortarys and am struggling with day to day things.
I have rested it, but it doesn’t seem to make any difference.
I looked up on here and it seems to be inflamation of the supraspinatus tendon.
And the information says that it will be ok if looked after, and can cause serious problems if not.
But I have had this episode now for over a year and am worried that it is now damaged beyond repair.
I am seeing a physio next week, but am worried what the outcome will be.
Does anybody have similar experiences, or able to offer an oppinion as to the future?
I rested from training, due to another injury for over 4 months, but that didn’t help!
Any thoughts on the subject would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Sarah.

Lumber spin issues

I’ve posted previously concerning ITB and ankle injuries. Both per partically caused by overpronation problems and my two flat feet. However, correcting the pronation has highlighted issues with my lower back and my physiotherapist considers that my lumber spin may be the true source of many of my issues.

I have been actively trying to correct my posture whilst sitting at this damn desk but I believe that I have been over-correcting and consistently straining my multifidi and glute muscles. The resulting aches and pains can be unbareable – but exercise helps.

The problems became a serious issue when I began to increase my weight training and also added ‘interval’ type training to my swimming routine (you can tell I’m a runner). I immediately suspected I had been lifting too much weight and stopped the weight training. However, the problem has persisted and I must now consider that the swimming may be the irritant! I am currently experimenting with reduced swimming and no swimming to prove my theory but was wondering if anybody else has any comments on any of the above…

Riddle me this…a 2-knee riddle

I’m a 21 year-old woman who came back from a snowboarding vacation with intense knee pain in BOTH knees. i’ve boarded before and this is the first time i’ve experienced prolonged pain on the ouside of both knees. Originally both were tender and swollen, but i thought it was just the mountain punishing my body. But it’s been three weeks and i still have trouble with stairs and bending. Could i have an ACL injury in both knees? Any advice?

Pain in shin

(3 discussions)

it hurts all over my shin, not loads, but just enough to cause discomfort, and a bit of a limp! Do you think i should get it checked out now, or wait see if it goes away, cos I might seem a bit silly if its nothing, just brusing. But if its serious, like shin splints, I dont want to make it any worse, cos my friend was out for three seasons after letting them go for too long.Any adice would be great, thanks!

p.s. if it makes a difference Im a middle distance runner, that does sprint trainin in winter to improve strength!

Hamstring – ping !

Hi,

I was (not quite) doing the side splits two nights ago, and I felt a *ping* in the hamstring area.
I’ve never been injured in this area before -I think its a grade 1 tear, and I put ice on it straight away.

Now (two days later) I can walk pretty much ok, but there is a dull pain in the back of my leg, and it feels a bit weak.
I wonder if anyone has any experience of this and any idea how long I should rest before going back to sport?

Thanks,

Daffowd

Knee problem

Four and a half years ago I underwent an anterior cruciate ligament replacement operation. Last year I had a piece of bone that was floating around removed from the same knee! Having had physio, I returned to training – weights and JiuJitsu. Just recently my knee has swollen slightly and ‘clicked’ on full extension. There has been no pain and no real loss of movement – apart from that due to the swelling, which is relieved by ice! Can anyone tell me if my knee is just protesting at the raised intensity of activity and will get used to it, or if I am damaging it again. Perhaps it’s just a question of getting some ultra-sound to break up some free-floating calcifications? I am going skiing in April and could do with some advice on achieving a decent level of readiness!
Thank you and sorry for the long-winded question!

Groin pain – beginnings of stress fracture?

I am 35 and ran two marathons last summer. This winter is the first time I am training at all. Recently I noticed a feeling of discomfort (I hesitate to call it pain, since it is so mild) in my groin area on the left side only. There is no pain when I run, even long distances, but the discomfort is quite noticeable the evening after my big workouts. I have been reading a lot about femoral neck stress fractures, which share many of the same symptoms. I have also read that this sort of injury can manifest very gradually, and that it is best to treat it early (with complete rest), rather than continue training hard to “make sure” and thereby cause oneself a much mor serious injury. Since rest can’t hurt, what sort of time are we talking about when trying to make sure that one is ready to resume training after a suspected stress fracture. Has anyone out there had a similar experience? Although I absolutely hate the idea of a complete break from running for 2-3 weeks or more, I would vastly prefer this to a serious stress fracture and several months on crutches, after which I may never run as well again. I would really appreciate knowing if anyone out there has been faced with a similar dilemma and could give me some good advise.

Lower leg Pain

I have a lower inside leg pain which just will not go away. I stopped running for 3 weeks and went back gradually. The pain returned. After a recent SLOW 5k the pain returned. Hurts most when I start running and sometimes in the middle of the night. I seem to be able to “run through it” but I pay the price after the run. What is the problem and how can I solve it? HELP!!
