Fulkerson osteotomy/IT band syndrome

(2 discussions)

I had a Fulkerson osteotomy in August 2010 with good results–do have full range of motion in the knee. However, I’m still bothered by a tender spot on the lower outside part of the knee. The orthopedist at first thought it was a neuroma at the surgical site, but after further examination, he said it was IT band syndrome.Has anyone heard whether this is a common complication of this surgery, possibly as a result of the immobilization? Could it have been there before the surgery and it just blended in with the pain from the patellofemoral syndrome/chondromalacia? Riding an exercise bike seems to make it worse. He gave me a cortisone shot, which has helped, but has completely eliminated the problem.

I am 6 moths post-op and have also been diagnosed with IT band syndrom. After recieving the cortisone injection, the pain still hasn’t subsided. : Has anyone heard whether this is a common complication of this surgery, possibly as a result of the immobilization?
