Golfers Elbow OUCH
(8 discussions)
Ok I have had this injury for about a year now. After 3 shot of Cortizone still have pain. A little background is I have been lifting for 2 years and intense. I believe this is when the damage occured. i have been thru PT and it did help. Well about 4 months ago I did something that really tweeked it. think it was pullups. So Just got back from the Dr again and he read my MRI and says I have a Catagory 3 tear. So I have to meet with the surgeon next week.
My question is has anyone suffered from this injury? Anyone have any suggestions? I am very open, i would like to avoid a sugical procedure at all costs. Any info or insight would be great. Thanks!!!!

I am sorry for not thanking you sooner. Just been busy….. Anyway went to the surgeon and she said they can repair it but rehab is a long time. Also I drive a stick and use a computer on a daily basis which would be a problem…. SO I am not sure what I am going to do. I probably with just leave it alone or wait till it ruptures on its own. Thanks again for you help I will try out the taping method but i was told that any brace or taping only helps 10% so i guess something is better than nothing.

This is the taping technique I was talking about. It is list on pages 6-7 of the pdf file.

I tried the strap, but in my case it made it worse since it put too much pressure where the tear was. The taping technique I use is a variation of a golfer’s elbow tape job. Basically you are just pulling, with the tape, the muscle closer to it’s attachment, so that there is less stress on it. I also wore an elbow sleeve over it. I’ll look around to see if I can find instructions for it.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it. How did you tape your elbow? I use a strap just below the elbow but never seems to do much. They are also not sure if the tear is in the ligament or in the muscle. Again thanks

I have had the opposite side injury as you, I have had lateral epicondylitis (golfer’s elbow is medial epicondylitis). I also had a grade 3 tear, but was not recommended for surgery. Using a combination of McConnel taping and physical therapy I was able to strenghten the surronding muscles and reduce the inflammation. This was a couple of years ago and I have not had any other problem since. I have resumed full activity and really the only thing I notice is the dent in my forearm where my muscle tore.
