Upper back injury

(2 discussions)

Its a long story, but i got an upper back injury when working out, and it wans’t my fault. It happened about one month ago, it hurt for a week or so, then it stopped until it started hurting again when i was throwing a football around with my friends. I probably injured the rhomboid. I dont feel pain when i do and back extrecies such as deadlifts, pulldowns, pullups, bend over rows but i do feel pain when i twist my torso, of lift a heavy weight while twisting or arching my back. Its not the spine or the lower back. The pain is not a sharp pain but feels more like a strain or a pull.

This best discribes my injury: http://www.med.umich.edu/1libr/sma/sma_upperbak_sma.htm

When this injury occured i thought it was nothing, thus i didnt ice or do anything. I know that ice right now is too late? what should i do then? just stop working out until it feels fine? heat it? I just really hope its not permenent. Please help.

Does anyone have any information on this type of injury? I’m having the same problem, I believe I injured the rhomboid muscle from swimming freestyle. Now when I twist or reach across my body, my upper back between the shoulder blades is killing me. I saw an orthopedic who said I was fine, but I’m having some problems. Has anyone here had this problem, and how did you recover from it???

    Hello,
Im also a weightlifter and I think I have a simmilar if not the exact same problem as you. Im also out of the gym and its driving me crazy.
Awhile back while working out, I messed up my upperback( Rhomboid ) and It dident reallly hurt all that much so I kind of ignored it which was a BIG mistake. The pain is really not all that bad. ITs just a annoying pain in my upper right back that wont go away and It only really gets irritated when i lift weights, especially bench press, push ups dips or military press. Work outs like that.
The pain is pretty much allways there, except when someone massages it or somthing like that.
No doctors can really figure out whats wrong. What they have told me is that its Trigger Points which developed from a Muscle Tear and they are causing the pain. They reccomended me to Streach, have massages done, adjustments, and Trigger Point Injections. So im in the process of getting all that set up to be done now.
Have you found out any Info on this? I would greatly appreciate any of the info you have. Because I have had this injury for far to long and I want to get back to the gym. If you have any further questions for me feel free to ask. THanks.
