Kid with ankle injury

(3 discussions)

I have a 9 year old that has an aching ankle. When pressing your finger on the back of the heel, it hurts. He is limping along because of the pain. Doctor mentioned tendinitis and to put ice on it. Everything I read about tendinitis doesn’t mention anything about the back of the heel. Any suggestions with this problem, what is it, what to do?

dave is right, dont give this a chance to become a chronic tendinitis. you can give him a small heel wedge to temporarily take some of the stress off the achilles, but only short term, that and ice. there are 2 bursae around the achilles one infront one behind, and the achilles itself can get tendinitis. if your having trouble finding info, the bursitis can also be called haglunds deformity i think.

i have had tendonitis and the pain does come from the heel, i rested and reduced running followed by iceing. as the child is so young i wouldn’t do anything till its better as a long sporting future is ahead

    Hi, have a look at:

This is the best bet – also have a look at achilles bursitis.
