Knee Injury – Ligament, Cartilidge.

Hi

I injured my knee just over 1 month ago. I went to the hospital and they took an x-ray and said it looks like there ligament/cartlidge damage and i will have to come back for a MRI scan.

When i first injured my knee, i was in agony for the first 10 days or so, on crutches could not even walk with them. My knee was very swollen and painful.

Anyway the end of the second week i was using my crutches and getting around slowley and the 3rd week also. I’ve left my crutches now as i can walk without them.

But my problem is my knee is still swollen and every now and again is painfull ( it feels weak ), I’m getting worried because the swelling is still there after a month ( is this normal ? ) and i’m still waiting for my MRI scan?

What the average healing time of an injury like this, when will the swelling and pain go? and when will my leg feel strong again?

Any help much appreciated….

    Several thoughts
    1. Ligament/cartilage damage…
Often time the MCL distorts in a posterior direction. This can create a structural tension that puts pressure on the cartilage. A therapist trained in manipulating soft tissue or an Osteopath/bonesetter could be very helpful.

    2. Still very swollen and painful…
The tissue spasms around the knee are probably reducing lymphatic flow. A therapist trained in manipulating soft tissue and managing the Lymphatic system could be helpful. Bare in mind there are several Lymph techniques. I would suggest one that is a bit more aggressive. The light touch approach in my experience has proven to be less effective.
