Patellofemoral Pain

(2 discussions)

I have been diagnosed with this. No problem running but aches in both knees after and dificulty sitting and standing, squating.
Anyone had this? I have an extensive stretching routine which is bringing results and now have to tape the knees to bring the knee cap more into alignment!!

    Hi.

I was struggling with patellafemoral pain for a short time. It actually became noticeable after an ankle injury caused me to walk abnormal. After months of therapy, bracing, and taping became inaffective I opted for the surgerical approach. I ended up having a Lateral Release of the patella tendon on both Left and Right legs, the right one first. My doc said that sometimes, just a cleaning out behind the kneecap works well, but he did the LR at the same time to keep from having to go back in. He said it wouldn’t make it any worse, which it did for the right leg. I regret the decision on the right leg because it hasn’t worked yet, but the left one improved a great deal. Maltracking is hard to treat. There are a lot of short term pain relief strategies, all can be affective for small amounts of time. I’m sorry if this wasn’t much help.

I have had petellar tendonitis for nearly a year. It is a pain. There are three grades 1(comes and goes. don’t get aches again) 2(comes goes for longer periods of time) 3 (constant pain before, during, after activity). Watch out for three because i’ve heard that it can lead to a complete tear of the tendon. I wear a knee strap during activity and ice immediately after. Really helps. Strong quads and calves will take stress of the tendon.
