Plz help=Broken Wrist -therapy

(21 discussions)

I broke my wrist in two places = one on each side of the wrist.
I was in a cast for almost 12 weeks. Now that my cast is off I need to go to therapy.
My insurance only covers 5 visits and my doctor told me I should go for 6 weeks every day. What exercises should I do to help me move my wrist from side to side or up and down.
I notice I can’t bend my wrist.
I was told that in time with exercises this could improve.
I want to make sure I get as much info as possible to insure better results & to get my strength and motion back. Please e-mail me a list of exercises that could help me and any other suggestions you may have.

I broke my wrist on April and have gone trough a surgery that put a metal plate inside my wrist. The doctor didn’t give any specific advice on what therapy I should do, he just told me to do whatever I want as long as it doesn’t hurt.
Now, 4 months after the surgery, I gain back almost all of my wrist movement except for the back and forward flexibility. It is very important for me because I am a basketball and badminton player. Can you give a list of therapy specifically for back and forward movement of the wrist?

I broke my wrist in October. I had a compound fracture of the ulna and also broke my schaphoid bone. I did not do physical therapy and afraid I am paying for it now. I still can’t do normal activity with it, a push up is out of the question. My question to you is, What did you find out about physical therapy exercises you could do at home by yourself?

Would you please let me know how your wrist mended. Did it come back with full movement again or have you limitations with it?

On 1/19 I broke my left wrist snowboarding. I broke the ulna bone, fractured the radius, in which a closed reduction was necessary. Along with a fracture in the middle of the wrist. I was in a long arm cast for 2 months. I got it taken off two weeks ago, and I am still struggling with mobility and pain. I am not going to physical therapy and I need help in choosing the right excersizes to do in order to regain strength and mobility back in my wrist. I am a very active person so this is very difficult for me. Please help. Thank you so much!

I broke my wrist on July 1st and I was in a cast for 6 weeks, when I took the cast off I was still in pain, the doctor told me that my wrist is totally healed and the bone filled out beautifully, but my wrist area was very swollen, extremely painful and my thumb crooked, and I can’t lift it. I can move it down, grip with it, make a fist, but can’t straighten it up. It’s always bent n leaning down, and I have no strength in it. I’m very concerned and I wonder if you can help me or @ least tell me if that’s a normal thing after a broken wrist. thanks in advance

my 81 year old mother fell and broke her wrist and needed surgery and two pins. now the pins are out and she has a soft splint to wear, but she still has pain and swelling and is suppose to do therapy, but cannot afford it at this time. she bends her wrist and trys moving her fingers on her own. hopefully this helps, but if there are some certain things she could be doing or maybe things she shouldnt do, could you let me know so I could help her. Thank you! Lorraine

Briefly, like others I broke my radius bone seven weeks ago and got the okay from the orthopedic doctor that the bone has healed without any therapy instructions other than let my pain be my guide. wrist movement up is okay (a little stiff) but I cannot bring it down 90 degrees like my other without pain in the area above the thumb. please advise me of therapy exercises. Thanks.

I recently shattered the radius in my right wrist in a motorcycle accident. My dr placed 3 screws in my wrist. What kind of weight training/exercises will I be able to do in the future when my cast is removed? Also, are screws permanent?

My daughter broke her wrist, had surgery, they put in a plate and took out the pins recently, but is unable to get therapy for it. Her little finger is starting to draw up and her wrist is stiff. Is there exercises she can do on her own to improve the situation before it gets worse?

I’m currently a reservist in the military and I fractured my distal radius and have a step off. The surgeon placed a plate in my wrist so I wouldn’t develop arthuritis. They recently took the stitches out of my arm and have placed a wrist brace on to stabalize it. I can’t rotate my wrist to where I can have my palm facing up and my wrist is stiff and will not move up and down. What are some things I can do in order to regain moblity of wrist.
