Shin Pain

I have acute shin pain when I run. The pain is mainly on the outside part of the leg. Generally the pain is on my left leg but sometimes both the legs hurt. When I sprint or run for shorter distances I do not get any pain but if I run for longer distances even though I run very slow, it pains. I’m completely releived of pain when I relax. Can I avoid this by using specfic shoes or support for the shin. Do I need to take any calcium supplement? I’m a student and outside my country of origin and so I would prefer postponing a visit to sports injury specialist. Can this be possible?
