Sprained ankle

my ankle bent bout 90 degrees outwards and i sat on it falling over on rolerblades. no breaks in the xray and was told to use R.I.C.E. its been 7 weeks now and its still swollen around the ankle on boths sides, i can walk and drive fine but jogging more than 10 meters starts to hurt. i would like to know what to do to make it heal faster or how long it will take to heal as not rollerblading is killing me. thanx.

    I would suggest that you see an orthopedic surgeon, just to make sure that it is really only an ankle sprain. I think formal physical therapy is your next step. They will be able to design a rehab program which you can follow at home in order to safely and quickly return you to your sport.

    Hi, Your ankle should be much better than that by now, you need to get ultrasound treatment at least once a day, ice the hell out of it ( 2 or 3 times a day, one time is 2 sessions of 20 mins icing and 20 mins off)
    You also need deep friction (twice a week) on the ligaments ASAP – this will hurt but will also sort it out much quicker.Start training as soon as you can but only with strapping support and no pain.

    I did the same playing Bball, took me three months before I was able to play. lots of calf raises, cold packs, flexibility exercise, dorsal,plantar,inversion,eversion. take anti-inflamm’s to help swelling, and stay off of it when you can.
