Bunion surgery??
(4 discussions)
Hi,
I have recently been told by my podiatrist that I need to have surgery to correct my bunions. From what I understand they’ll have to make two incesions in my first metatarsal to move it and place in two screws. Has anyone had this surgery before?
Also, I am wondering if my podiatrist is being too conservative in restricting my physical activity. He suggested that after the surgery I say off of my feet completely for a week then spend 4-6 weeks in a walking boot. However, I am rather frustrated with the fact that I am not allowed to do anything as far as exercise during this two month period of time. I asked if swimming would be okay after the incision site healed, he said no. Is this accurate?:-?
Thanks!

sorry about that..pushed thew rong button…anyways…yes..i have had bunion sugery on both of my feet..i am 16 years old..lol so mine were pretty bad to have both done at such a young age…i recently had my right foot operated on this past summer and still am not fully recovered just becausei haven’t actually rested it because even before i was actually allowed to participate in sports..i was doing things with the team and running with a limp…and now that basketball is done, i’m in volleyball so it’s still a little sore…but…everything went great..both of my surgerys were a great success..i would reccomend Dr. Michael Cardinal..he is AMAZING and the best doctor i have ever been too…he will truly tell u if you need surgery and like the post before me said..don’t get the surgery unles u can’t stand the pain because the only thing it will do then is make ur foot look a lil more normal and cause u pain just to go through the surgery…now the surgery itself for me.it really wasnt’ painful..i just went into the operating room..feel asleep…and woke up later with nothing feeling any differnt..it’s a lil uncomfortable once u get home that same day just cuz u dont’ wanna move your foot in fear of messing anything up..but you can’t becuase it’s so tightly wrapped. the healing process for me was 3 weeks on crutches totally off my foot..and then i could walk for about 2 weeks with the boot..and then after that i would use a regular shoe..i had to do that for about a month untill i c9ould actually participate in sports so about 2 months is correct….if you have any other questions..feel free to email me cuz i don’t go on this website very often. name is krissy..
good luck!!!!!!

Hey runner-
Major Doc
This is an old post, but here goes: NEVER HAVE BUNION SURGERY IF YOU DON’T HAVE PAIN.
To see an actual bunion surgery, go to our site at http://www.podassociates.net. You can learn everything you ever wanted to know about a bunion there. Go to services, foot surgery and click on bunionectomy.

I guess I should also add that my bunions are quite severe, out of four degrees my are currently third degree going into fourth. However, they don’t cause me any pain. Should I still get the surgery. I’m rather torn between getting it or not because I don’t want the surgery to create any problems. But on the other hand, I don’t want to wait so long as to create any other problems such as hammertoe. Any suggestions???
Thanx!
