Foot Swelling following Fibula Fracture

I broke my fibula on June 9, 2014.
I am now 11 weeks following the break.
The bone is healing slowly.
I am now wearing a Bio Skin brace. My concern is that my foot (toes and ankle) swell a lot – at least twice the size of the other foot.
At night, I elevate the foot and the swelling reduces but it has yet to be the same as the other foot.
Is this normal?

Back Cracking in Young Children

(3 discussions)

I was wondering if it was normal for a young child’s back to crack frequently. My younger son’s back cracks (not a single pop, but a whole series) several times a day when I pick him up. It has done this his entire life (he’s just over 2 right now). Since I have rarely heard my older son’s back crack the frequency of my younger son’s concerns me. He is otherwise in perfect health and is actually very advanced in his motor skills. He is also large for his age, at the 100th percentile for stature. I appreciate any insight that you can give me on this.

Possible Neuroma

During soccer I experienced pain in the ball of my foot. I switched shoes and it was forever better. However, 1 month later I was getting to run in my old running shoes and I felt this popping when I would step on my left foot. I thought I had something in my shoe, but there was nothing. Now when I play basketball the ball of my foot hurts and I can make my foot pop when I turn it to the side or when I make a sharp direction change.
My big toe also goes numb. Do I have a neuroma? And if I do what can I do about it if I don’t have insurance? (I already bought new shoes)

Heel Pads Inappropriate for long term use?

I have a pair of the Viscoheels, had a cortisone shot, performed stretching excercises, used ice, etc. and have had about 95% improvment in my heel pain in 2 weeks.
My Dr. said using the heel inserts for more than 2-3 months could cause other foot problems.
He recommended $400 custom full length orthodics.
Do you agree with this?
Is there a less expensive long term solution for foot pads?
