bone stimulator vs. surgery

(2 discussions)

I was in a bad auto accident in November. I crushed my leg and broke 7 bones in my foot. I was still in severe pain on the ball of my foot.
After several sets of xrays my Dr. dismissed me and said I had RSD. After a second Drs. oppinion and a bone scan I found out I had a stress fracture in the 2nd metarsal. I have been wearing a post op shoe for 10 weeks and since they found the fracture I have been using a bone stimular ultrasound machine(aprox. 5 weeks) Two weeks ago after xrays to ck on the 2nd metarsal they found a stress fracture in the 3rd metarsal. I am continuing with the bone stimulator and the post op shoe. Do you think surgery is an option? Thanks Pat

What should I do?

In Oct.1996 I fell down a flight of stairs, well the Dr.’s told me that I Shattered my L4-L5 Disc on the right side.
Well I went for the surgery and was fine until Jan.7,2010 I fell again down 3 stairs, Dr. told me that I herniated my L4-L5 on the left side so we tried Aqua theraphy did not work well Oct.2010, I had another surgery.
I knew that day that something was wrong when I woke up from recovery I was in more pain then ever.
Well hear it is two years later and my Dr. tells me that I need a SPINAL FUSION because I reherniated my L4,L5 on the left side.
So I went to get another opinion and that Dr. to tells me the same, but I have another opinion with a different Dr. this week.
I’m tired of being cut open. The Dr. tells me that there is no guarentee that I will recover or that my pain will be all gone.
My chances of recovery are 75/25.
What should I do.

broken distal fibula

(4 discussions)

had a broken distal fibula and I just got my cast off (feb. 10, 2006). i’m wondering what it should look like, mines still a little swollen on top of the foot and a little around the inside of the ankle, and what the process and timeline for a full recovery. should I have full range of motion? how much weight should I be putting on it? any advice would be appreciated as i’m a college student that is trying to recover without paying any cash. oh! I did wait the proper time (8 weeks) to remove the cast.

knots on soles outside of instep

If you rest your ankle on your knee and place your thumb running down the middle of the sole of your foot and stop it at the instep position, approximately the very middle of the sole, for me, you’d feel a spherical knot.
To my knowledge this has never been there before and does not belong there according to any diagrams I have seen of foot skeletals.
There’s one on each foot but the one on the left food has become larger.
To press your thumb lightly over this knots evokes mild pain.
To press harder, the pain increases uncomfortably.
What is it?

Knee Injury–Very Very Bad–Please help!

(2 discussions)

I twisted my knee about a month and a half ago and it seemed to heal up at first, but then I continued to do my normal activities and continued to injur my knee. Now it is swollen (despite having been on anti-inflammatories for a week now) and my lower leg is swollen and my feet (at the end of the day). It is very stiff and painful. I can bend it to about 90 degrees, and in the pool I have gotten it to about 110 degrees probably, but certainly not on the ground. I have been doing these exercises in the pool recommended by a physiotherapist for about 6 days and there is no improvement when I am not in the pool and it actually hurts more I think. According to an ultrasound, which came back normal, there is no ligament damage.
I need advice. Something is very wrong. It should not be this bad! I’m also worried about the effect the prolonged inflammatory response will have on my tissues, as well as the cause of the inflammation. Any advice or information would be appreciated. Please send me an e-mail. Thank you!
