Pidgeon toed adult

I’ve been pidgeon toed since birth. I’m now 27.
When I was very young I remember wearing shoes with a bar between them at night but it did not really correct the problem.
Doctors wanted to do surgery when I was a baby to shorten an overly long tendon. (I don’t know specifics since it was never discussed with me) My parents decided not to go through with the operation then because there was a high risk that the surgery would leave me with a permanent limp.
It never really bothered me much except that people always told me that I walked funny.
The thing is, now I’m competing in Irish dancing.
As hard as I work at it, my left foot still turns in when I lift it off the ground. It is a severe mark-down in competition for poor foot placement.
Also I tend to get shin splints very badly in that leg and the ankle frequently “gives” on me.
I have an apointment to consult with my doctor next month about it but I would like to know what sort of treatments are available to an adult now.
Are there surgical options?
I’ve been through physical therapy to strenghten the muscles but it is not a muscular or skeletal problem.
From my understanding it is simply an overly long tendon not supplying the support I need.
It is very frustrating for me because as much as I love dancing, this is a physical limitation which prevents me from being able to score well, causes me frequent injuries, and just embarrases me because my instructors are constantly pointing it out or just making excuses for my “bad” dancing.

back pain.

(2 discussions)

last 2 yrs, I was diagnosed of having an 8 degrees lumbar leviscoliosis. I was complaining of back pain when the doctor told me to have a back x-ray and that is the time when the doctor told me of me having a slight scoliosis. I was ask to go to a rehab doctor for therapy. I went to 2 rehab doctor and both doctors told me that 8 degrees scoliosis is so small that it will not have any serious effect on my body. both doctor told me just to have therapy sessions. Fyi, I am currently lifting weights in gym, and both doctor also told me that there is no restriction in terms of what I must not do in the gym except for not lifting weights that requires me to bend. So what I did was just to undergo therapy session for the pain in my back and still continue lifting weights. Although the pain in my back did not go away, but it is bearable. but last 1st wk of jan, I felt more pain in my upper back and lower back. again I went to a doctor this time the doctor refer me to a orthopedic specialist. the doctor told me to just strengthen my trunks and abdomen. he did not let me have an x-ray because he thinks it is not necessary. I am just thinking that maybe my scoliosis as aggraviated by my lifting weights in the gym, but the doctor told me it is unlikely to happen. I have also have a slight hump in my lower left area in back and it is due to the scoliosis according to the doctor. What shall I do with my scoliosis? do I need to get x-ray again just to confirm if the degrees of my scoliosis increase? I really don’t know what will I do right now. the pain in my back increasing and sometimes my leg also hurt. I realy don’t know if it is connected with my having scoliosis. thanks.

Back Support

I am about 100 pounds overweight, trying to lose weight by walking.
However, it causes significant pain in my lower back to walk (even a mile or two).
I tried my maternity belt that I used during pregnancy, which worked great.
Would an obesity belt work, and if so, where would I get a prescription? My doctor is on board with my weight loss plan. Or should I see a chripractor?
I already know that the back pain is caused by my very large stomach (c-section caused loss of muscle tone, sagging stomach fat).
