Ruptured Adductor or iliopsoas

(2 discussions)

I am a martial artist and have had a nagging groin injury for 3 years now. I have been to several people for this and none can seem to diagnose it correctly.

I have a sharp pain whenever I do any groin stretching. I do not have any loss of strength or power in my kicks just painful activity on certain kicks. I have no pain at all while running or sprinting. I have weeks with no pain and then after a workout it can re-occure again…

Any advice on how to see if I have an adductor rupture or Iliopsoas injury?

I have read this site well and seem to think it’s a deep adductor injury but I can’t tell.

I have pain doing a simple butterfly stretch on the left side only. Also with both feet facing forward while dropping down into the spilits. It appears to be very deep in the groin area because I can barely get any direct pressure with my fingertips on it.

The kick that causes most pain is called a turning kick in Taekwondo. It causes the pain while kicking with the opposite leg (right. The left foot is planted, the right leg rises up and points 90% striking sideways.

    Thanks jeff

How do you stretch your groin? Does it hurt when you stretch it one way but not when you stretch it another? Describe the action of the kick that causes pain.
