Tendonitis

(2 discussions)

Help! I have been in training for the London MArathon for about 2 months now (although was a keen runner anyway with good fitness). After a long run about a week and a half ago (with shoes too tight) I have developed tendonitis (flexor) on my right foot. The doctor has said to rest for 2 weeks but I wondered whether anyone knew whether I would be ok to swim as I want to do something to keep my level of fitness up. And do you think that six weeks will be enought to recover my training!?

Any advice would be gratefully received on this.

From a very frustrated runner.

Thanks for your reply! I will try the ‘poolwalking’ and see how it goes. I am keen not to lose the fitness that I have built up over the last month or so. And as for the marathon – well, we’ll see. I’d rather ensure that my foot recovers and miss this year’s marathon than risk doing any permenant damage!

Thanks again – I’m off to re-ice my foot!

Swimming is a great cross training activity. Have you ever tried pool running? This works better at maintaining the muscles you use for running than simply swimming laps.

Make sure that you ice your foot as much as possible. This will aid in reducing inflammation and speed up the healing process.

I’m not really that familiar with training for marathons, so I can’t tell you that much about making up for your lost time. Sorry!

    Anyhow, Good luck!
