Interested in Physical Therapy

Hi, my name is Jennifer. I’m an incoming freshman at my local community college. I have been interested in Physical Therapy for quite a few years now and will be majoring in it at college. I work at Shriners Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana. I’ve had the opportunity to observe the physical therapists at my work. I have a few questions about this topic. 1. When starting out as a physical therapist, how much is the pay?2. Is the job physically and emotionally demanding?3. What consists of the job besides just setting up exercises for the patients?4. In your experience, has family members ever been aggresive towards you in the concern of their child?5. What are the general hours of a Physical Therapist? I would appreciate your answers. Thank you, Jennifer

shoulder pain

My daughter (16 years old) has been experiencing shoulder pain on her left side.
This also leads down to pain in her shoulder blades.
She is also experiencing frequent headaches and numbness down her arms.
She went to physical therapy but this only made things hurt more.
They indicated that she may have a problem with her nerves in this area.
What would you suggest our next step should be?
Someone told me that we may want to try a chyropractor.

TORN CALF MUSCLE

(2 discussions)

While playing volleyball in the sand, I went to hit a ball in a normal fashion, didn’t really jump too high, didn’t fall, dive, etc.
I felt a pop in my calf (felt like a rock hit me).
I looked back to see if maybe one of my teammates bumped into me.
Then it felt like a charlie horse, so I figured I’d just straighten the leg out.
When I put weight on it, massive pain.
I iced it right away.
The doc said it’s either severly sprained or torn and only time and rest will heal it.
It felt decent after 3 days, so I ditched the crutches, only to use them again 3 days later and is kept swelling and stiffening.
It’s been 8 days now and it’s still swollen, hurts like heck, and my ankle is swollen and black and blue.
Is there anything else I can do, other than icing it nightly and resting it? Is it possible something else other than a torn muscle? Thanks, Mike

I fell off of a stool and tore three muscles of the rotar cuff.
Surgery repair was not possible.
I also dislocated the bicept. surgery was done and surgeon cut bicept in half and left to reattach it self.
It is now 13 weeks past surgery and I have been going to PT with little improvement but still lots of pain. Any suggestions.

Growth Plate Injuries

Hi there.
Would you know if a 20yo has a chance of injuring the growth plate in his ankle?
I was sitting on the back of a delivery truck and jumped down – a distance of 1-2 feet – and hurt my ankle this afternoon.
I believe my ankle is sprained but I know men can grow into their twenties and my mom said my symptoms (swelling, cause of injury, pain, etc) sounds just like when she separated her growth plate as a 14yo girl.
My ankle only hurts when I walk on it.
It does not hurt when I stand on it.
Thanks for your help. Chris

torn calf muscle

Don’t know if my last message got to you. I am 46 years old and am a coach. When I jolted forward to run out on the field (because we won in double overtime) I heard a loud pop. Couldn’t walk on it within 3 minutes. Went to the Orthopedic two days later and he was very vague. Sent me home with no pain meds and no physical therapy and a boot that kills me to wear it. It’s been nine days and I am just now walking on crutches without excruciating pain that I think came from the blood rushing down to the torn calf. Now I’m getting huge muscle cramps and my back is killing me from laying in bed so much. do you know whats next? Is there something else I should be doing besides ice and advil. Should I go to a physical therapist? There was alot of swelling and bruises but thats slowly going down. When can I put pressure on this foot? Will I be on crutches forever? I took two more weeks off of work because I have to walk and I carry things. Do you think thats resonable? I would appreciate some help. Thanks Fran
