Sore Tendon

Whenever I throw the baseball around I get this strong pulling sensation (almost like a tearing felling)in the back side of my arm above the elbow. Eventually if I throw too much I have to take myself out of the game. The pain goes away when I rest, but comes back when I start to throw again. I think it’s my tendon, but Iam not sure. What might it be? And what is the best way to heal it?

Rib Injury

Got kicked on the right side of the chest a week ago sparring. About 3 days ago I started feeling a pain on the lower right part of the rib cage. Can’t tell if it’s fractured or bruised. I doesn’t hurt to breathe, but hurts just standing or sitting sometimes, and not lying down as much. It’s a little painful when I cough or sneeze though. Doesn’t hurt touching it, kinda feels relief when I do. Just wondering if I should go in and have it checked or just ride it out. Want to get back to classes.
Any good treatments or links to treatments?
Thanks!

Can you name the muscle I have pulled?

(3 discussions)

Hi,

I have a pulled muscle in my neck/back/shoulder. I can’t shake it and when I saw my Chiro he actually made it much worse by stretching it too soon! (It’s now the worse it’s ever been!).

Anyway, he said the problem is actually caused by a joint in my shoulder and it’s a common problem. He did tell me the name of the muscle but there’s no way I’d remember it. It’s the muscle that lifts my shoulder, and it hurts to relax my shoulder down, or to put my head forwards to the opposite side that’s hurting, or back towards the same side. It also aches constantly and I can’t seem to relax!! I often pull it, but it usually clears up in a few days to a week, so this time is much, much worse!

Does anyone know exactly what I have done? If so could you please explain it to me!

Thanks,
Sarah.

Chronic shin pain, please help!

(6 discussions)

Hi,

During the past year I have suffered from three stress fractures (one on each tibia and one on my third metatarsal of my left foot). I’ve also had a second degree sprain of my MCL and have had to have physical therapy for patellofemoral syndrome. My physical therapist determined that most of my problems were caused by the fact that my feet are flat and I over pronate. She then gave me some specially made orthotics. I also have been wearing shoes with extra support to correct my over-pronation.

I am currently particiating in indoor track, we practice three days a week and I swim three days a week. However, I have been having chronic pain in my shins. At first I thought it was posterior shin splints and rested for two weeks. I then returned to running and I’m still experiencing pain. I am rather confussed because the pain I am experiencing now is completely different than that I experienced before I rest. I am able to walk without pain. However, when I run I experience extreme pain until I am warmed up properly. After this, I have no pain. My innner shins are EXTREMELY tender to the touch on the insides in a space about 3-4 inches long.

I have been doing ice massage twice daily and taking ibroprofin (sp?). Is there anything else to do?

I asked my trainer if this could possibly result in another stress fracture. He said that it is probably just inflammation that some people just have to deal with. Is this accurate?

Any suggestions?

Thank you,

runnerchick

Knee injury

Hi all,

First post here. I am a Soccer goalkeeper and have a strange knee injury that i’m finding hard to shake off.

Essentially, my right knee feels fine unless it is put under alot of stress i.e. a goal kick. In addition, when my knee receives impact e.g. the ground when diving it goes slightly numb and becomes very stiff. This passes after a few minutes, but there is still some discomfort and slight stiffness upto 24 hours afterwards.

Any ideas on what this could be or any websites that maybe able to help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Simon

Possible foot injury from snowboarding

(2 discussions)

Hello all. I am new here and was hoping someone might be able to give me some info on a possible injury. Anything is appreciated. I am currently living in Japan so it is not easy for me to see a doctor or get x-rays. Here is the story:

This happened 2 days ago: I was going off of a rather large jump on my snowboard. I was probably 15 feet in the air. The snow was slower than to be expected and I dropped onto a flat landing taking the brunt if the impact in my right (back) foot. I immediately felt pain in both feet/ankles but worse in the right. I was able to stand up and snowboard down a little but it was somewhat painful and my legs felt weak. I could gingerly walk on it enough to get to the car.

I immediately iced my right foot for approximately 3 hours. There was very minor swelling and immediately a small bruise. I found that if I was not putting pressure on the heel I felt little pain. I also discovered I could walk on the front of my foot/toes without letting the heel touch and be virtually painless.

It has now been two days. I feel absolutely no pain if I am not putting pressure on the heel. There is no swelling. I can walk on my toes fine with no pain (although a small amount of discomfort). I have full range of motion with no pain. I do have pain when I try to put pressure on the heel.

The blue section marked in this picture is where there is heavy brusing and the red section is very light bruising.

I am hoping it is a bruised heel and I will be back on the snow and walking normally soon, but I fear it may be something worse. The lack of pain makes me optimistic but the bruising looks bad. I know a friend of mine skied with a broken foot for weeks, walking normally, and ended up requiring surgery. I really hope this is not the case.

I realize this is quite a lengthy post but I thought more information would be better than less. Thank you very much for your time.

Leg/Knee Pain

3 weeks ago I strained some muscles in my leg. The pain was initially in my hip but also spread down my leg. Now the pain is most acutely in my knee with a numb feeling down my calf. The pain is tolerable during the day but in bed the pain in my knee becomes severe and prevents me from sleeping. My GP just recommends rest but after 3 weeks there is little improvement.
Any advice gratefully received, particularly any exercises or help in sleeping.
