Pain running down my entire leg

I think I injured myself while stretching. I have tightness/pain/tingling in my upper leg and calf and my foot is slightly numb. There is no swelling and blood flow seems to be normal to the foot/leg.

ITB syndrome

I am running the London marathon in April and have problems with ITB on my left knee since December.
At the moment I can’t run more than 3 miles without it hurting. I have seen a knee specialist and a physio is giving me treatment (although I don’t think she has treated ITB before). It is a really frustrating injury and doesn’t seem to be getting any better. No-one has talked to me about the marathon and whether I will be able to run it – it is REALLY important to me that I do the marathon and I will be devastated if I can’t. Do people with ITB run the marathon and is there anything else I can do – maybe change physios to someone who knows a bit more about running and ITB? ANY help or advice would be grately appreciated.

Arthritic big toe!!

(3 discussions)

I have early onset arthritis in my big toe joints. The pain flares up every so often but is not constant enough at the moment to warrent surgery according to my consultant. However, because the joint has limited movement it is having a knock on effect up my leg into my hip, and I have been told to stop running outside. What I want to know is does the surgery for it give a good range of movement back and therefore solve the whole leg problem? I am under 40 and hopefully have a lot of running years ahead of me!

Illiosoas / Lower Abdominal on the Right Side

(3 discussions)

I have pain on my right side at the abdominal insertion point at the top of the pubic bone area just below where you would expect the appendixand have had it for several months. I am 40 and received this injury playing soccer. If I warm up well, I can get through a game, however the next day is bad news so I have stopped playing soccer until I can get over this. I have had ultasound and bone scan clearing me of hernia, hairline pelvis fracture and osteitis pubis. I have been referred to a specialist to rule out low grade appendicitis and then will be put on a course of cortisone injections.
In the mean time I will come back to this site to see what else is suggested to ease this situation.

Ross

Chronic calf injury!

(5 discussions)

Hi, ive had a chronic calf injury for over 3 years which was wrongly diagnosed in the first place, Had several pairs of orthotics fitted with no major success, had an MRI scan + nerve conduction test which have not shown up anything. I am a middle distance runner and this injury came on after my first track race of the season. With a week rest it seemed to get better but would come back after my next hard track session or race. The problem gradually got worse and 3 years on its still there. The main site of the injury is about 15cm above the bottle of my heel and goes up along the lateral side of my calf. Cant be compartment syndrom as it gets worse after exercise, strains and tightens up even more the day after vigorous exercise. Anyway last year i wento to see a specialist at the British Oylmpic Medical Centre and he thought it was just a simple calf strain that had not had chance to heel properly after 3 years, So i had an Ultra Sound scan, which showed up 1 micro rupture and 1 micro tear about 5 cm above my achilles. The Dr gave me 2 sets of cortosone injects with 6 weeks in between each set of injections. However this has made things worse and now i have lots of problems walking, but before i had the injections i could still manage 2-4 miles of slow running. Anyway the Dr at the BOMC says that the injections have weakened my calfs and i should now have 2-3 months complete rest to let my injury fully heal. I agree with the diagnosis the ultra sound scan showed up, as its the only concrete evidence that has been presented to me so far as to what the injury is. Could you please give me any advice as to any things that i can do to complement the 2-3 months complete rest that i have been told to have, eg ultra sound, massage etc. What do u consider to be complete rest. Thanks very much for taking the time to to read this message!

Testicle Injury–Should I worry?

(2 discussions)

Hello,

About four months ago, I sort of struck/crushed my testicles, mostly the left one. When it happened, I was in pain, but not severe pain for a testicle blow. There was some swelling, redness, and discomfort for several hours, which I didn’t really think much of.

Later, a bruise formed on my testicles, which was accompanied by itching and some discomfort. The bruise eventually went away, but there were prominent blue veins on my testicles. The veins look a lot like the varicose veins some older women get in their legs. They occasionally cause mild itching and discomfort.

Four months later, the veins still haven’t gone away. I haven’t been to a doctor about this because I can’t really go without my parents knowing. The veins haven’t really caused much pain or discomfort, but I’m concerned anyway. Do I have a varicocele? Is it just a cosmetic thing, or will it cause “man problems” down the road? Should I worry or seek medical treatment, or is it too late to do anything?

The name says it all

I’ve been struggling with an incredibly sore right tricep for over two weeks. I think I may have hurt it initially lifting weights and then I tripped and put that arm out to break my fall. I haven’t noticed any bruising but it is incredibly point tender almost entirely along the muscle. I have stopped lifting my arms and haven’t done any swimming (I’m training for an Ironman triathalon) but I haven’t noticed any improvement. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do to hurry the healing process along????

Back of leg, between calf & ankle

(3 discussions)

I’ve a nagging ache in the back of my leg which becomes very sore during & after runing. It’s below the calf muscle but well above the Achilles (which feels fine). Can anyone enlighten me as to what it is (an extension of the Achilles, perhaps?) and tell me how to fix it? Rest can only be a last resort as I’m training for the London Marathon.
Cheers,
Dave
