My diagnosis

Hi, I was recently diagnosed with grade II degeneration of the posterior aspect of the body and posterior horn of the medial meniscus. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN????

I have pain in the bone that rests on the outside of my knee when I run. The pain becomes so severe that I can hardly walk after running. I am still able to bike and use the elliptical machine with no problems.

Please help!

It means that your meniscus (the pad of cartilidge in your knee is degenerating either wearing away or calcifing and not able to function as it should. I gather that your doc suspects this is the reason for your pain. Please make sure to question your doc thoroughly and if (s)he won’t educate you about your diagnosis and problem, find another doctor.

Ask if physical therapy will improve things, and what you’re going to have to do to make it better. Perhaps you should consider seeing a Sports Medicine doc as they will have the goal of getting you back on the road rather than simply treating your symptoms.

    Good luck,
