Has anyone ever heard of a calcified hematoma?

(2 discussions)

I don’t know if this is the correct forum for this or not. My daughter is 15 and has been playing soccer since she was 5. Over the past couple of years, when she gets bruises, which happens frequently on her legs, they sometimes leave behind a bump under the skins, which hurt when you touch them. She has a couple of them right now that have been hanging around for a couple of years. We showed one to her pediatrician a couple of years ago, and he called it a “calcified hematoma” which is a fancy term for a bruise with a calcium deposit, and said it would go away in a few months. But it never has, and now she has another one. Is this something I should be concerned about? I’m reluctant to take her back to the pediatrician for it, because I’m not sure he knows what he’s talking about!

Geez, I hope not. She’s been through so much PT and just recovered from a broken leg. I will definitely look into it further. Any other possibilities?

    Hi,

Does it sound like myositis ossificans.

This is something to be concerned with I think. Not to be taken lightly but not all that common either.

Usually related to bad treatment following injury.
