Labral Tear in Hip

(3 discussions)

My Sports Dr. thinks that I might have a labral tear in my left hip. I was wondering if anyone on this list had ever been diagnosed with a labral tear, what course was taken to repair the tear, and what your symptoms were that led to that diagnosis.

I’ve just undergone an athroscopy last week for a labral tear in my right hip. It’s taken me 3 years to have the op, mainly due to my pain occurring only occassionally- but when it did- boy was it painful!!! I might be too late to give you any help, but I’ve found most people seem to put off going to doctors about this just like I did! I finally found a physio who suggested I see a sports doctor, intead of just sending me on my way with another list of useless exercises. This sports doctor (expensive!) ordered an MRI (the Xrays and ultrasounds dont show up the labrum). Finally the MRI revealed a labral tag (which explained the occassional pain as it would be fine when it is down in it’s place and painful when it lifted up- for me, usually walking us stairs or getting out of a chair did it). Then to the surgeon… and to hospital.
The first 4 days were the worst- needed more pain killers than I’ve ever had. Needed help to get out of bed, shower etc, and on crutches. Then getting better each day. Has anyone gone to a physio after this op to help rehibilitation? I really want to get back to sport etc as quick as I can.

Hi.So 4mths on after my hip arthroscopy my leg is still sore 50% of the time. Sometimes it becomes real painful and i have to take painkillers. Also,i have had this annoying niggle just below my left side of the lower ribcage, and i feel a certain amount of pins and needles in my left leg(same side as bad hip),which occurs when i ly down on my back or sit down in an armchair. Is there any1 out there who understands where im coming from, and/or has had the same Hip operation as me. I would dearly love to hear from you if you had.To date i havent played sport coming up 2 years this july, and my career as a Physical Education teacher is on hold as i seek to cure my injury. Many Thanks

I know its late but yes i had a labral tear in my hip. After 1and half years i got a hip arthroscopy operation to fix it.3mths on its tsill slightly sore but improving gradually. The signs were like a sharp razor blade feeling just beside my groin every time i ran or twisted in bed. Hope this helps.
